Bundesgrenzschutz ("Federal Border Patrol") is Germany's federal police force. Despite its name border guard duties are not its main task.
The BGS acts as back-up for the state police forces, as direct-action force for the BKA (Germany's FBI equivalent) and the BIS and as anti-terror force (the famous GSG9 is a BGS unit). In addition, the BGS supervises Matrix security in the AGS and operates all government computer systems.
BGS operatives are well-trained and have access to military-grade equipment.
Point of interest: Shadowrunners, by routinely breaking federal laws, abusing cyberspace and crossing state borders while committing their crimes, fall under BKA/BGS jurisdiction.
(IRL the BGS was renamed to Bundespolizei ("Federal Police") effective July 1st, 2005.)
