Aconite, also known as wolfsbane, monkshood, or leopard's bane, is a poison derived from a common plant with blue flowers that resembles the hood of a monk. The poison is an alkaloid that paralyzes the nervous system and slows the heartbeat, possibly causing cardiac arrest. It was recently discovered that aconite can force creatures who have changed their form through magic back into their native form. This is presumed to be the origin of the legend of wolfsbane being effective against werewolves.
