Bundesgrenzschutz ("Federal Border Patrol"), or BGS. is Germany's federal police force. Despite its name border guard duties are not its main task. Rather, the BGS supports the state (Lander) police forces, as direct-action force for the Bundeskriminalamt (BKA) (Germany's FBI equivalent) and the Bundesamt für Innere Sicherheit (BIS), and as an anti-terror force. In addition, the BGS supervises Matrix security in the AGS and operates all government computer systems.
BGS operatives are well-trained and have access to military-grade equipment. It operates two of the AGS government's elite forces: Grenzschutzgruppe ("Border Protection Group"), or GSG, teams (including GSG-9, the counter-terrorist unit); and Anti-Terrorist Organization – Matrix (ATOM) Matrix commandos.
Point of interest: Shadowrunners, by routinely breaking federal laws, abusing cyberspace and crossing state borders while committing their crimes, fall under BKA/BGS jurisdiction.
