A domain is an area that is is Aspected towards a given type of magic.[1] They are areas of emotional, natural, or spiritual significance that cause a pooling of mana.[2] Domains are relatively permanent, and have been known to last for decades.[3]

A more extreme version of the domain is known as a mana warp and is relatively dangerous.[2] Mana lines are a particular type of domain that are narrow and long, some of which stretch for hundreds of kilometers.[3]

Casting spells in domains is usually difficult, unless the aspect of the domain makes it particularly easy on purpose, or if the magic user or the Awakened being shares the aspect (for example: followers of the Christian traditions will find it easier to use magic in areas of significance to the Christian believers, whereas all others will find it more challenging).[4]

In 2070, the scale of -12 to +12 described domains as within the range of 1 - 6.[5]. In 2075, the scale, now ranging from -24 to +24, placed domains at below 16 range.[6]

Examples of Domains[]

  • A small-town church, a scene of a violent crime, a bar for the Awakened: rating 1 on the -12 to +12 scale, or rating 1 - 3 on the -24 to +24 scale.
  • A major rock concert, a maximum-security prison, magical workshops or university departments, slums, weaker manalines and power sites: rating 2 or 4 - 6. Examples: Teotihuacan and MIT&T (rating ?/4), the Great Cahokia Mound Web (rating 3[7]/6).
  • A battlefield, a major disaster site, an important holy site, a great mana line or a power site: rating 3 or 7 - 9. Examples: the Pyramids of Egypt (rating 7), the Gobekli Tepe nexus (rating 8), the Nazca Lines (rating 9).
  • The site of a significant event that is recurring or commemorated, major holy sites, powerful mana lines and power sites: rating 4 - 5 or 10 - 12. Examples: Arlington National Cemetery, the Sistine Chapel, Notre Dame Cathedral (rating 5/10), the Sidney Song line (rating 5/11), Stonehenge (rating 5/12).
  • Places that have emotional or magical significance to most of humanity, very powerful power sites: rating 5 - 6 or 13 - 15. Examples: the Abilene Re-Education Center, the blast sites of Hiroshima and Nagasaki (6/13), the Great Cairn line in Tír na nÓg (?/14), the Sacred Mountains of China (?/15).[8][9]
  • Auschwitz was classified as a level 6 domain on the smaller scale, but reclassified as a level 16 mana warp site on the larger scale.[8][9]
