The Five Families are the Mafia families of New York City.
Factions: 5 families
The "Big Five" are the five Italian-American crime families which form a sort of cartel that controls all Mafia activity in the Big Apple, the Newark sprawl, upstate New York, and in Philadelphia. They basically run the streets of New York and have a lot of influence over many of the corporations dominating NY City's economy and politics. They also call the shots in the Commissione.[1] In the city there are other Mafia families (Jewish, Eastern European, Irish, and Italian), all of whom are under the domination of the five families.[2][3] They are a crime cartel of traditionalists whom refuse to hire metahumans as anything except disposable muscle.[4] Whom also don't trust magic.[5]
Five Families: Genovese Family, Colombo Family, Lucchese Family, Carnetti Family, and Bonanno Family
It's biggest and strongest competition in the Big Apple is the Large Circle League (aka, the Big Circle Society), a vassal of the Red Dragon Triad. Which has established multiple successful criminal operations despite the Mafia's opposition and is warring with them for control of the drug trade. In addition it has been successful in extending its influence over many corporations in Manhattan, something which previously only the Mafia had.[6][7] [8]
