The foveae (or blind spot) are are a type of a mobile mana void that occurs on Earth.[1][2]

It is de facto an invisible tornado whose epicenter lacks mana.[3] They often spinning of larger and more stable mana voids, and as such are the opposite of a mana storm.[4]

They range from a few meters to two kilometers in diameter, and vertically can reach usually between one to several kilometers.[5] They have not been known to last more than 24h, and they disippate into mana ebbs.[6]

They are commonly found in Aztlan believed to be a side-effect of the pervasive blood magic used in that country. Other known locations of foveae incluie the SOX area and the Containment Zone.[7]

Like mana voids and mana warps, they are very dangerous and even deadly to dual-natured, astral or astrally perceiving beings.[8] Foveae can make traveling in Aztlan's astral space very dangerous. Awaken critters and spirits seem to be able to sense foveae and attempt to avoid them at all costs.

They are difficult to spot in the physical world, through the do cause some distortion in the air.[9] Astrally, they appear as "dark, swirling vortex that reduces the magical energies around it"[10] or as pitch dark areas, that also cause hallucinations.[11]

Comments[]

It seems like in older Shadowrun editions (before 5th) foveae were just a synonym for mana voids, but as of SR5 they appear to be a mobile subtype of the manav void.
