==History==
'''History:''' Guam was ceded to the US by Spain in 1898. Captured by the Japanese in 1941, it was retaken by the US three years later. The military installation on the island is one of the most strategically important US bases in the Pacific. In 2010, with the phase out of the US military bases in Okinawa and Japan, Guam becomes an even more important Pacific stronghold. Guam became the military's first and last Pacific post. This saw a swell of military personel and equipment with everything that was stationed in Japan was moved to Diego Garica, Pearl Harbor, San Diego, or Guam. When several of their Japanese industrial sites were destroyed by fires in 2054, Ares Macrotechnology steps back production and sets up shop in Guam (with UCAS approval of course).

'''Political Status:''' Organized, unincorporated territory of the US with policy relations between Guam and the US under the jurisdiction of the Office of Insular Affairs, US Department of the Interior until 2008-2009. In 2007, a motion to incorperate Guam as a full part of the USA was introduced, and several months later, the motion was passed. This was followed by in influx of military personal as the 3 military bases located on island expanded their borders and capabilities. Guam now is mostly a military complex with a few touches of civialian life to keep the troops comfortable.

> OK, so there's the main file of what you have. Now for what to find in the shadows. Make no mistake, this is still a UCAS place, and we've been through a lot here. Runners are few and far between. Jobs, even more so. But there is a reason to be here. Believe it or not, this is a big prize of both Ares and the UCAS. While scouting the area for someone, I took a peek at the landscape astrally. I was overwhelmed by what I saw. This island sits on a NEXUS of multiple Ley lines. Most of Ares' magical resources are located here. It's not much compared to some of the other Megas, but it's still more then other Corps.

> Most of this island has become damn near one big military base. The local airport was incorperated into Anderson Airforce Base back in 2018 to allow for larger traffic (both personel and equipment). It's still not enough for a Sub-orbital, but at least it can handle Sonics now. When the troops bailed out of Japan, most of them headed to the surrounding islands, and when the Philipines were taken, the boys in blue were pushed further away. This is almost the last place they have.

History[]

The United States took control of the island from Spain during the Spanish-American War of 1898, holding on to it apart from a short period of Japanese occupation through the formation of the UCAS up until the mid 2030s. When the UCAS decided to pull all of their forces out of the Pacific a local commander called Admiral Wallis and his supporters refused, joining up with local allies and staying to defend what they regarded as their home.

Admiral Wallis and allies go AWOL during the UCAS pullback to stay behind and defend the island.[1]

Admiral Wallis was originally from Texas and is rumoured to co-operate with the CAS military, allowing them to use it as a friendly base from which to harass local Aztlan interests and monitor nearby shipping channels.[2]

Politics[]

Whilst it is unknown what kind of government the country has, it is intimated that General Wallis and his military supporters maintain a large amount of either direct or indirect influence on the governance of the nation.

Economy[]

As the name suggest Guam Freeport makes a large part of its income operating as a free trade zone and from megacorporate shipping firms and scientific research vessels. It also serves as a refuelling and victualling port of call for ships as well as having a thriving grey and black markets.

Economy is based on megacorporate shipping firms, scientific research vessels, trade and as a port of call for smugglers, pirates and other shadowy types.[1]
