Mana storm is a type of mana anomaly in the form of a mana-induced violent and chaotic weather event, which spontaneously discharges many spells. It is a highly dangerous phenomena that metahumans are advised to avoid. Mana storms are dual nature and are visible (and affect) both the mundane and the astral spaces.[1]
Mana storms usually cover an area of several square kilometers.[2] Mana storms are typically sudden and short-lived events, lasting mere hours before fading away. Exceptions include the Maya Cloud around Tibet which has lasted for years; whereas mana storms around Sydney in Australia and Daoineann Draoidheil around Tìr na nÓg are also famous for being very frequent.[3][4]
Mana storms are related to another mana anomaly known as mana surge.[5][6][7] Mana surges can lead to mana storms as they escape the confines of the mana line.[8] The main difference between a mana surge and a mana storm is that mana surges are not visible on the mundane (physical) world.[9]
Mana storms originate inside a domain or mana warp.[10]
The opposite of a mana storm is the foveae, which is a moving mana void, often a spin-off of a larger mana void, just like a mana storm is often spin off of a larger and more stable mana warp.[11]
