The Mareno Family is a minor Italian crime family in the divided city of St. Louis on the UCAS and CAS border.
The Mareno Family is a small crime family with less than 200 members led by an ork, Don Giorgio Mareno. It's nearly 150 years, with it's origins harking back to the 1930s. The family has no technomancers and their magical assets are very limited. It makes it's money by acting as brokers and facilitators for smugglers, operating some Matrix-based betting sites, providing Matrix-based money laundering, pornography, the production of BTL programs, and prostitution (including bunraku).
Next in line to succeed the Don is his nephew Francisco 'St. Frank' Mareno, another ork. St. Frank is the most intelligent, physically fearsome, and farsighted of the St. Louis mobsters. A wiseguy who is as skilled with a gun as he is with a Matrix program. The Don also has a niece, Mia 'Strega' Mareno-O'Herlihy. She is human and is the family's only full magician. Stega Mareno is college educated and graduated with a Masters degree. She is a skilled and powerful mage, and works to conceal and protect the family and whatever they are doing or have done.[1][2][3][4]
