Orange County (aka, "Fun City") is a district in Los Angeles.
After 2065[]
Purchased by Horizon in 2065, Fun City is a gigantic family-friendly amusement park (though some of the southern parts now act as a military staging ground). The entire county is now one colossal homage to a whitewashed version of the United States. Where they have recreated in an idealized way the towns, sites, and so on of the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries. Though it is now owned by the metahuman-friendly Horizon which is led by the Latino Ork CEO Cline, there is tension with the pre-65 executives and some of the employees. Who are against it's attempts to insert some more "historical realism" into Fun City, not to mention that Fun City has always been a haven for Anglo supremacists, Humanis Policlub, and the Human Nation.
Inside the park, the employees are friendly, polite, welcoming, and smiling. Outside though, the suburbs are full of racism. Horizon has had to deal with massive protests in the suburbs against metahumans, AIs, and technomancers. In response diversity education programs have been made mandatory and the neighborhoods have been "reorganized". Horizon has converted big chunks of Fun City to serve other functions. Special research labs have relocated south of the main amusement park, with new construction and increased security in the areas around Irvine and Tustin. North of the San Juan Capistrano ruins is Armed City, where the PCC mantains a heavy military presence to deter Aztlan.[1]
Before 2065[]
Prior to its purchase by Horizon, Fun City was mostly owned by Amalgamated Studios out of Studio City in Los Angeles. It included Garden Grove, Anaheim, Buena Park, and Stanton. Fun City's attractions included Virtual Disney, the Crystal Cathedral, Knott's Berry Farm, and various wax museums. It was incorporated in 2020 by Amalgamated Studios, which had purchased most of Fun City between 2010 - 2020 after Orange County had gone into its final bankruptcy.
It was a clean-cut resort with every detail based on what "Middle America" supposedly was like in the past. Wide avenues in a nicely laid out grid, flags which flew above the streets, and buildings that were all based on some type of theme (e.g. the Wild West, medieval, etc). The residential areas which were off limits to the tourists were surrounded by castle-like walls. Peace officers sported sharp uniforms which included white gloves. Thousands of tourists visited the resort every day, which had state-of-the-art entertainment. Security personnel packed lethal weaponry and were disguised in funny costumes (e.g. cartoon characters).
