San Francisco is a metroplex in the Bay Area of California Free State, which has been controlled by various Japanese regimes for close to 40 years now. From 2061 to 2067 it served as the "capital" of General Keiji Saito's expanding California Protectorate. After the collapse of the occupational state, Mitsuhama has become the new major controlling faction in the city, along with other Japanacorps continuing the strong Japanese presence.

History[]

  • 2036 - California leaves the UCAS and becomes the California Free State. Tír Tairngire invades in the north up to Redding, while Aztlan takes the south and captures San Diego. At this time the JIS sends a military and effectively takes control of San Francisco, in the name of protecting Japanese business interest. Though it is still considered part of the CFS while it was being occupied.
  • April 2051 - Bomb in San Francisco BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) line.[3]
  • October 2051 - Earthquake hits San Francisco Bay.[4][3]
  • 2061 - San Fran is hit by an earthquake when the Ring of Fire erupts during the events of Halley's Comet. Imperial orders are given to recall the Japanese military back to Japan.
    • General Keiji Saito goes rogue, refuses the recall orders, declares himself Protectorate-General and starts to round up metahumans into internment camps. He expands his control over San Francisco. Ares moves troops into Silicon Valley in order to keep Saito from taking control, and the dwarves in Halferville threaten to destroy the Caldecott Tunnel to keep Saito out.[5]
  • 2064 - An EMP bomb explodes in San Francisco during Matrix Crash 2.0.[6]
  • Late 2068 - All-out war breaks out in the city. Along with the California Rangers, Ares fight Protectorate-General Saito's forces and take back control of the city.[5][8]
    • Mitsuhama takes a lead role in San Francisco after Saito's fall.[9]
  • 2069 - The University of California-San Francisco reopens.

Trivia[]

Inconsistencies[]

In o76933476System Failure, Mitsuhama states that after some deliberation they decided to relocate their North American headquarters to San Francisco.[27] Since the decision is connected to the pullout from Tsimshian, this seems to imply that the headquarters was located in Tsimshian at that time. But according to o03045067New Seattle not only has it been in Seattle a few years before that (2060),[28] it also remained there according to o39478620Runner Havens (2070).[29]
