The Scorpyrine (Euscorpius igneus) is an arachnid much like the common scorpion, averaging 40 centimeters in length. They tend to hunt much the same prey as their common cousin, but also go after small birds and mammals due to its larger size. Hunting mostly with its claws, it reserves the powerful venom in its stinger for self-defense, or if the prey is much larger than itself or struggles too much.
Some megacorporations have been known to use the Scorpyrine as a first-line defense on targeted grounds, and have developed biochemicals that irritates the creatures so they are always in an attack mode and will sting at the first possible opportunity.
