Shadowrun is a cyberpunk-fantasy role-playing game world, set in the years 2050 - 2080.
It follows the Awakening that has brought magic back to the world, just as it begins to embrace the marvels and dangers of technologies such as cyberspace and the merger of man and machine called cyberware.
Shadowrun is one of the best-known and most popular Cyberpunk-RPGs besides R. Talsorian Games' Cyberpunk 2020.
Publication History[]
The first edition Shadowrun core rule book was published in 1989 by FASA Corporation and was set in 2050.
Second edition came out in 1992 and was set in 2053.
The third edition was published in 1998 and was set in 2060.
In 2001 FASA closed and sold the rights to the Shadowrun RPG to Wizkids and the video game rights to Microsoft. FanPro received a sublicense to print new books for Shadowrun.
In 2003 Topps Inc purchased Wizkids.
Fourth edition was released in 2005 and was set in 2070 and was still being published by FanPro.
In 2007 FanPro being hit by financial troubles lost the Shadowrun license. Catalyst Game Labs received the license and began working on new books for 4e as well as a reprint of the core rule book knowns as Shadowrun 4th 20th Anniversary Edition.
Fifth edition was released in 2013 and was set in 2075.
Sixth edition was released in 2019 and was set in 2080.
