The Shan State is a polity in mainland Southeast Asia.
The Shan State is run by drug lords, both Shan and Yunnanese. It's biggest minority is the Wa and they are the largest producers of opium and methamphetamine pills. The Shan claim they use the profits from the drug trade to finance their struggle for independence.[1]
