Info: If you want to use the 6WW/Dumpshock skin (monobook)[]

Go to http://shadowrun.wikia.com/index.php?title=Special:Preferences and select the monobook skin from the "Site Layouts" section in the "My info" tab. This skin is not as supported as the wikia default, but personally I like it more. Some dumpshock users may find that useful. --Piotrus 16:40, November 9, 2011 (UTC)

Open: Embedding GoogleMaps[]

I'd like to try and embed some GoogleMaps that players have created based off of the SR world. I've read up that it requires access to mediawiki pages, but when I tried to create one of these pages I couldn't edit the page. So if someone could make a mediawiki page with:

<iframe width="425" height="350" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" src="https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=201375040006088778489.0004dc233c3f9a36e7362&msa=0&ie=UTF8&t=h&ll=42.029492,-87.81578&spn=0.927745,0.830841&output=embed"></iframe>
View <a href="https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=201375040006088778489.0004dc233c3f9a36e7362&msa=0&ie=UTF8&t=h&ll=42.029492,-87.81578&spn=0.927745,0.830841&source=embed" style="color:#0000FF;text-align:left">Shadowrun - Chicago 2073</a> in a larger map

so we can test it out, that'd be good, or if there is some way I can get access to create mediawiki pages, that'd be cool too.

You may need to ask as the generic wikia help forums about that. At least I have no clue how to help you out here :( --Piotrus (talk) 17:15, July 31, 2013 (UTC)

Open: Background image and readability[]

I think the big "Shadowrun" logo on the background image makes the articles harder to read. Maybe we could use a different wallpaper or make the article background more opaque? --ShxLoki (talk) 00:25, December 6, 2012 (UTC)

I don't know if it's just me but the readability with the transparency is bad imo. Particularly when you have a role-playing and text heavy focus to articles. The rest is fine, just that transparency... I think it detracts from the usability and does not benefit appearance-wise. Citadel535 (talk) 23:45, July 29, 2013 (UTC)

No, as you can see from my comment above. I see exactly the same problem.
--ShxLoki (talk) 08:53, July 30, 2013 (UTC)
I have no problem if someone wants to experiment andchange it. Don't ask me how to do it, however :) --Piotrus (talk) 17:14, July 31, 2013 (UTC)
The transparency level fix: WikiaPage .WikiaPageBackground { opacity: 0.9;}  in http://shadowrun.wikia.com/wiki/MediaWiki:Common.css should do it. MilesTeg81 (talk) 10:46, May 14, 2017 (UTC)

Open: Category cleanup[]

I am beginning category cleanup for characters. I want us to have a nice category system so that people writing modules for SR and later SO can easily find info about canon characters, sorted by profession, race, time and place. To do:

Feel free to ask questions if anyone is not sure what or why am I doing this. --Piotrus (talk) 17:45, July 31, 2013 (UTC)

Okay. - It's all okay (also I'm not sure for the "People by time"-thing). - It's a lot of work ...but someone has to do it.
--Dorle (talk) 17:53, July 31, 2013 (UTC)
I am not totally happy with the name, but couldn't think of anything else that is short. "People by time of appearance"? --175.114.178.243 21:20, July 31, 2013 (UTC)
Yes, that's much better. --Piotrus (talk) 08:06, August 3, 2013 (UTC)

I will have limited net access for the next ~2 weeks. If anybody would like to help out and finish cleaning up the Category:People, it would be great - for each bio, replace C:People with appropriate location, time of appearance and profession category. I think populating the Category:People of 2050s is of major importance as it gives mostly canon characters to SRR module designers. --Piotrus (talk) 16:15, August 3, 2013 (UTC)

Posting Order[]

Just an aside. I would suggest to always add the newest discussion at the top of the discussion page. At least for long ones.
--ShxLoki (talk) 18:35, July 31, 2013 (UTC)

Personally I prefer the Wikipedia bottomposting... --175.114.178.243 21:20, July 31, 2013 (UTC)
I moved the older discussions from the archive section to an archive page. That removes my problem with adding posts at the bottom, so we can leave it as is.

Open: Content presentation - Shadowrun digital games vs Shadowrun pen & paper[]

I think we generally agree that we want the old Dumpshock wiki format, which treated articles as encyclopedic entries about the Sixth World with all references to its fictious nature confined to a meta information section. So there already is a certain tension between game content and the main sources from the pen & paper rpg. So some pointers might be warranted.

--ShxLoki (talk) 09:05, August 1, 2013 (UTC)
We should probably clone this discussion to SRR article's talk, but I'd consider SRR canon (official adventures, not fan made ones, of course). --Piotrus (talk) 17:10, August 1, 2013 (UTC)
Me too, I was thinking more about the old games. Nonetheless if you go back to the old stuff most of the time you will introduce new problems. Case in point with Shadowrun Returns Marie-Louise Telestrian is James' younger sister but his daughter in the world of Shadowrun Returns.
--ShxLoki (talk) 20:51, August 1, 2013 (UTC)
Hmmm, that's an annoying error, we will just have to note in the article that official sources contradict themselves. Sigh. (Alternatively: perhaps there is no contradiction, and both his sister and daughters are separate individuals with the same name?) --Piotrus (talk) 08:05, August 3, 2013 (UTC)
I doubt it was intentional, but having two of them might be a way to fix the issue albeit a bit inelegant. Anyway a retcon in the direction of SRR seems undesirable. Marie-Louise is in her teenage years in 2054 according to SRR but in eight years she takes over Telestrian Industries?
--ShxLoki (talk) 17:08, August 3, 2013 (UTC)
Oh, I missed that you wanted to copy the discussion to the SRR talk page. Feel free to move it, if you think it fits better somewhere else. Though I think at least the general discussion of how to represent the video game content also makes sense here.
--ShxLoki (talk) 22:49, August 1, 2013 (UTC)

Category:Shadowrun Returns - people[]

Hmmm, I am not sure if we need Category:Shadowrun Returns - people. Rather, if he appears in the game, I'd clearly state so (also, in which campaign - official or fanmade? if the latter, it probably is not useful to mention it at all). Of more use would be adding him to Category:People of 2050s as all of them are, in reality, "people of SRR era" and can appear in game.--Piotrus (talk) 00:26, August 1, 2013 (UTC)

Well, I don't know. Some people might really only be familiar with or interested in the computer games. So extra categories to pander to that audience could be a good idea. [argument split off]
--ShxLoki (talk) 09:05, August 1, 2013 (UTC)
I'm with ShxLoki. Having more ways to organize data isn't a bad thing.
 (Dethstrobe (talk) 04:26, August 2, 2013 (UTC))

Background[]

What's up with the background? Its got a big white hole in it. If we need something, I can put something together based off the SR5 art or something. Just need some dimension sizes to work with. (Dethstrobe (talk) 03:44, December 5, 2013 (UTC))

I am not sure what you mean. Do you suggest we should replace the current blue-ish background which has the white Shadowrun text in the background? Frankly, the main problem we have is that any official piece of art would be subject to copyright, so using it would be a copyvio (illegal). Unless we get official permission to use any image, we can only use fanart (through we also need permission for that, too). --Piotrus (talk) 10:08, January 15, 2015 (UTC)

Main Page[]

How do we add a new Kickstarter thing to the main page? https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/webeharebrained/shadowrun-hong-kong

 (Dethstrobe (talk) 05:13, January 15, 2015 (UTC))

I am not sure. Depends on what format? --Piotrus (talk) 10:08, January 15, 2015 (UTC)

La Quinzième Section, le Sixième Monde[]

I am running a game set in the Big Easy and I would like to align it as closely as possible with La Quinzième Section, le Sixième Monde, but I can't find it anywhere.

Anyone have any suggestions?

5th edition updates[]

What's things look like on updating/adding pages for 5th Edition? Like I noticed that Seattle's infobox says that there's no local grid, but the 5th edition books specifically mention that Seattle has the Emerald City grid. (SR5, p. 234) --BrokenSoftware (talk) 07:13, January 17, 2015 (UTC)

We are missing lore from all accross the board, so yeah, we have major gaps in 5th ed, too. Piotrus (talk) 09:16, January 17, 2015 (UTC)
I have most of the 5th edition pdfs, so once I poke around and figure out how we format things around here (especially in relation to multi-edition page info), I'll be glad to help. BrokenSoftware (talk) 18:49, January 17, 2015 (UTC)
I'd just add it if you see something that needs to be added. Some articles aren't super consistent on formating. And someone else can always fix it up later, if its a big issue. But I think more content is a bit more important than proper formatting currently.(Dethstrobe (talk) 21:38, January 18, 2015 (UTC))

Relaunch/Revamp?[]

Hey Chummers, what do you all think of some kind of relaunch for the Shadowrun wiki? Work on a new look, fix any outstanding/broken stuff, and then make a push for the runner community to come and update the drek out of it, bring it up to speed. By and large, it looks like the solid content dried up around late third/early fourth edition, with some patches of SRR and 5th here and there. I'd like to see that fixed. Anyone have some time? Alternatively, I have some time, so if someone can point me in the right direction, I can probably leverage some resources...Opti (talk) 15:33, April 16, 2015 (UTC)

Good to see ya join the ShadoWiki Opti. Update everything and anything as much as you like. If you can get anyone else to help that'd be wiz. I've been slowly trying to update random things here and there, but it takes so much time... There are some templates but they are kind of suggestions in some cases. I've broken from templates on some pages anyway...  (Dethstrobe (talk) 05:00, April 24, 2015 (UTC))

New Sources[]

I made a source page for Seattle Sprawl and sub-pages for that, as you can see, but I have no idea how to get the source abbreviation for the citation at the end of the page. I was hoping to go with "sspr," but I've hit a wall. Thanks.

James Meiers (talk) 01:17, December 20, 2016 (UTC)

It's {{src|ssbs}} which produces o53359571Seattle Sprawl Box Set. That's the title I used and the abbreviation is based on it.
--ShxLoki (talk) 21:13, December 20, 2016 (UTC)
I didn't see that, but thanks.

Updating Site Appearance[]

I was wondering who has admin level access for changing the appearance of the wiki. I had some suggestions for adding a new background, making the background more opaque, changing the color scheme to match the shadowrun website and more. It looks like this could really use a revamp.

Technology (Vehicles, Equipment, etc)[]

I've done quite a bit of editing on Shadowrun and have created quite a number of pages, but I have not seen any pages created for vehicles, equipment, etc. Other wikis have categories for vehicles (e.g. Star Wars, Marvel, Warhammer 40K, etc) and I've noticed that on the Cyberpunk Wiki (Talsorian Games), they are creating pages for specific vehicles and weapons. I think we should have a category for that here in Shadowrun also, complete with a template. What does the community think?Esparza3368 (talk) 19:52, April 29, 2020 (UTC)

Adding new categories is easy enough. I feel like templates might be hard considering there are 7 Editions of the game with different stats. But I don't think we should be publishing stats anyway. But I'd fully endorce if you wanted to start to add new entries for gear and to add new categories to make them easier to search for. Dethstrobe (talk) 01:28, April 30, 2020 (UTC)

Ok, I am working on another wiki right now but when I get back to working on this one, I'll start adding vehicles and other tech. We've already have created pages for nearly every group, organization, location, or event. Only things left are characters and tech, both of which we still have a long way to go. As for templates, I don't see so much using it for stats. A vehicle template might have something as simple as vehicle type, name, manufacturer, weight, speed, and weapons. French wiki redirections[]

Hi, I think I need an admin for this one. The french wiki url has changed and is now at https://wiki.shadowrun-jdr.fr/ . Currently none of the redirections work.

Double Pages[]

Hi! While I was updating the Magic page and linking all other pages in relation to it I noticed that there was two pages about totem/mentor spirits, Totem and List of Totems / Mentor Spirits. And it's not the first time I notice double pages.

Fanon/Not Canon vs Canon[]

Hi, I want to help update this wiki. However I have noticed that there are a lot of pages that, on top of what Wunjo mentioned above, are Fan pieces or what have you. On their own this is not a big deal, but I have learned that several of the writers that do not have all of the books or all of the lore in their head use this wiki to help make sure they don't have continuity issues. With the fan made stuff not being marked as such makes this hard. The other issue is that when myself or others want to help make sure pages are updated or add pages that may be missing it is hard to tell what is a fan page without having to scroll the entire thing. And with 5k pages that is a lot to sift through. Any reason we don't have a Fanon or Not Canon Template? And is there anyway to narrow down the pages to ones that are not redirects and wiki pages besides going through the redirect pages?
